Notes for JOHN LEE ALLEN:He was 87 when he died. He was a Civil War veteran who served as a Corporal in Company K, Fifth Regiment, West Virginia infantry, from November 6, 1861 through November 23, 1864. Later he was promoted to Sergeant. He became sick with typhoid fever at Sperryville, VA. He was a member of Wadsworth Post, No 7, Department of Kansas, Grand Army of the Republic. John and Chairty Allen lived on Litte Ice Creek, Ironton, Ohio for the first years of their marriage. All 8 children were born in that location. The family came to Kansas in December 1884. The trip was made to Cincinnati, Ohio by riverboat, then by train to Parkerville, Kansas. It took three days and nights to make the trip by train. Harriet Dilley Stivers, a sister of Charity lived at Parkerville, a small town a few miles north of Council Grove, Kansas. Here the family of ten lived in two rooms over the post office for several months before moving to a farm owned by Harriet Stivers. Here they had three rooms and a kitchen roof that leaked. On November 28, 1886 William died of typhoid fever. Several other children had the disease but recovered. In the spring of 1904 the family moved to Council Grove (See obituary of John L. Allen and his Civil War redords). Cemetery lot for John L. Allen and Chairty Ella Allen as listed above, purchasedOctober 1917, W F Shamleffer, Mayor, H W Craven, City Clerk. Recorded in book 29 of Deeds, page 444.

My father is Jimmie Dean Infield. He was born May 20, 1936. Married my mom, they had me. Well, things happened and he married Caroline Irene Morris on October 16, 1965. September 11, 1966 Jimmie Carrol was born and about 1977 Anna Marie. Jim's parents were Anna Bell Hammons and Vallie Vernon Infield. Vallie's parents were Valentine Infield and Louella May Wachtel. Valentine's parents were William Infield and Lydia Kinsley. William's parents were Frederick Infield and Rebecca Gonser. Frederick's parents were John Infield and Anna M. Klink. John's parents were John Infield (1) and Maria Elizabeth. John (1)'s parents were Joseph Infield and Christina Winter.

Anna Bell Hammons as I hear tell, was the domestic diva we all should pattern ourselves after. She was the epitomy of an American woman; devoted mother and exceptional wife. Her home was immaculate, her dinners could've graced the cover of any magazine and her grace and manners are what is seemingly lacking in America today. So ladies, no more wincing about bringing home the bacon and cooking it up too. Afterall, Anna Bell managed just fine with energy and love to spare and I'm certain if she could manage to meet such high standards we can do it too. It is that drive to be willing to give so much of herself that set Anna Bell far apart from the rest of the world. It is the things I hear of her, but never knew that I yearn for. I truly wish I could've known her, but am thankful for the view I have of her given to me by my family. I'm so proud of Anna Bell and as much as I wanted to know her, I want you to know her too.
Anna Bell Hammons: daughter of James Monroe Hammons and Ida A.
James Monroe born Saline, Eldorado, Illinois on October 13, 1883.
James Monroe remarried a woman named Alma. When he was 37 and she 18, the 1920 census shows them to have been residing in Bartlesville, OK with Mulva and Anna from James' first wife (Ida) and their infant son James M. age 7 months. Alma was not the mother to Mulva and Anna as it is recorded in much of the genealogy records. In 1910, he resided in Hickory, Nowata, Oklahoma with his 24 year old wife Ida and his 1 year old daughter Mulva. For the record, Ida A. and Alma F. were both born in Missouri. In addition to James Jr., James Sr. and Alma had a daughter about 1923 named Ethel H. James Hammons was born October 13, 1852, Illinois. He enlisted in World War I on September 18, 1915. His eyes were blue, hair brown, current occupation was Smelter's in Bartlesville, OK. April 5, 1942, James M. Hammons Jr. enlisted for WWII. He was married, 3 years of high school, weighed 164 and was 71 inches tall. re: U.S. World War II Army Enlistment Records, 1938-1946. James M. Hammons Jr. was born August 21, 1919 and died September 1981, Bartlesville, OK.

Louella May Wachtel. Daughter of Henry Harrison Wachtel and Mary Oberholtzer. Henry's parents were Henry W. Wachtel and Sarah Fortney. Henry W's parents were Johann G. Wachtel and Mary Martha. Johann G's' parents were Heinrich H. and Catherine Baughman. Heinrich H's parents were George Wachtel 1730, Valley Neuce River, Germany, and Maria B. Brecklin.

In searching my grandmother and great grandmother, I have been led down another path. That of the Oberholtzer's. What an honor to have been forevere linked to a name with such a strong belief in God, reverence. Historical for their strong stance of their religious beliefs. This family name is forever linked in the history of the Mennonites. There is such an abundance of information on the Oberholtzer's that I am limiting my writings on this family.

Mattheus' parents were Jacob Oberholtzer, Wald, Zurich, Switzerland, 1535 and Anli Cuntz. Madge Augustine Oberholtzer
Birth: Nov. 10, 1896
Death: Apr. 14, 1925

Murder Victim. She was kidnapped, tortured, raped and murdered by David C. Stephenson, then head of the Ku Klux Klan in Indiana, a strong political leader and considered a contender for President of the United States. The sensational case sent him to prison for most of his life and destroyed the KKK in Indiana. Born Madge Augustine Oberholtzer in Clay City, Indiana, she grew up in Fulton County, Indiana. After earning a degree as a teacher, she worked for the Indiana Department of Education in the Indiana State Program for Literacy, helping illiterate adults learn to read. She also taught black children how to read. One evening in 1924, she attended a dinner at the Governor's mansion, where she met David Curtiss "D.C." Stephenson, and he was instantly attracted to her. Madge would go on two dates with D.C.; on the second date, he revealed that he was the Grand Dragon (state leader) of the Indiana Branch of the Ku Klux Klan. Incensed, she immediately broke off the relationship. On March 27, 1925, Stephenson called her, and asked her to come to his home about a new, important job. When she arrived at his home, he overpowered her, forcing her to drink several glasses of alcohol (she was a teetotaler), until she became sick and nearly passed out. Stephenson then had two of his bodyguards carry her into a car, where she fainted. When she awoke, she was on Stephenson's private train, on its way to Chicago. There he raped her several times, also mutilating her, until she blacked out. In Chicago, he let her and his body guards go to a drug store under the guise of purchasing some feminine hygiene items, where she purchased mercuric chloride tablets, and when no one was watching, she swallowed six of the poison tablets. When she was discovered vomiting blood that night, Stephenson waited until the next afternoon (nearly 24 hours), and when she didn't recover, he had his two bodyguards rent a car and drive her back to her parents' home in Indiana, where they dropped her off late that night without an explanation. Her parents immediately called a doctor, but there was little he could do. Madge told her mother what had happened to her, which her mother wrote down, and Madge signed her confession. Madge died on April 14, and Stephenson was indicted on charges of kidnapping, rape and second-degree murder. At his trial, the doctor who had examined her testified that the injuries she received during her rape would be sufficient alone to kill her. He described her wounds as similar to having been "chewed by a cannibal." The doctor also testified that since Stephenson had failed to seek immediate medical attention for her once he discovered she had taken poison, choosing to wait over 24 hours before returning her to her parents, he had made certain that she would die. Stephenson was found guilty and sentenced to life in prison. The resulting scandal destroyed the KKK in Indiana; within the next two years, the Indiana KKK lost over 178,000 members, becoming virtually non-existent. Matheus2, Jacob1), M. Born in 1686 in Palintate, GERMANY. Jacob
died in Lower Salford Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania,
on 2 November 1755; he was 69. Occupation: Yoeman. Religion:
Mennonite.

Immigrated September 23, 1710 on the ship Maria Hope.
Jacob signed a petition with 32 others to create the Township of
Franconia, Pennsylvania. These settlers were members of the
Mennonite Church and they came to America for religious freedom
just as the Pilgrims of 1620 did. Jacob settled on Indian Creekon a
tract of 180 acres.

Born in Pennsylvania. Deborah died in 1754 in Pennsylvania.

Jacob B. Oberholtzer

In 1838 Jacob and his family moved from Berks County,
Pennsylvania to Holmes County, Ohio. Jacob was a great walker and
made the journey from Berks County to Holmes County three times
walking the entire way.

On 26 August 1832 when Jacob B. was 23, he first married
Magdalena (Mary) RENNINGER, F, daughter of Henry RENNINGER,
M & Mary GILBERT, F, in Douglas Township, Berks County,
Pennsylvania. Born on 27 November 1811 in Brunswick Township,
Schuylkill County, Pennslvania. Magdalena (Mary) died in Nashville,
Holmes County, Ohio, on 10 May 1842; she was 30. Christened on
28 January 1812. Religion: Lutheran.

Margaret came to the United States when she was 25 years old.
Margaret was the illegitimate daughter of a Miss Young whose name
Margaret took. Later, this Miss Young married an Engle or Engel and
they lived near Nashville, Ohio.

On 29 March 1801 when Abraham S. was 21, he married Anna
BAUER, F, daughter of Samuel BAUER, M (6 August 1746-18
November 1822) & Elizabeth ZIEGLER, F (29 June 1746-2 November
1840), in Pennsylvania. Born on 15 April 1781 in Berks County,
Pennsylvania. Anna died on 5 June 1869; she was 88. Religion:

Jacob died in Upper Salford Township, Montgomery County,
Pennsylvania, on 26 September 1759; he was 59. Occupation:
Yoeman. Jacob was a member of the Mennonite church and came to America
for religious freedom. It is believed that Jacob came to America while a teenager and settled
in Germantown. It was during this time that he met and married
Deborah Krey who was a Holland Dutch girl. Jacob settled in Salford Township, Philadelphia County, (now Montgomery County) on Nov. 13, 1729 and bought 180 acres of
land. Jacob was naturalized, with son Jacob on April 11-13, 1743 in
Philadelphia Supreme Court.

These are my grandparents, Ted and Lula Conger Dilley.

Well, here is a picture I'm very proud of. This is my great grandfather Ira Thomas Conger (Tom), my great grandmother Margaret Ann Looney Conger (Maggie), my grandmother, as a small child, Lula May Conger Dilley Gaylord, and my great uncle Jim Looney. Pretty cool, huh?

Died, at Fuller's hotel, on Friday morning, at a quarter past 8 o'clock,
Captain John Looney, a member of the delegation representing the
Cherokee Nation now in this city on business with the United States
Government.
Captain Looney was the nephew of the celebrated chieftain Enolce,
or Black Fox. He was about seventy years of age, and distinguished
as a brave, honest, and good man. He has ever been a firm and
unwavering friend to the whites, and to the civilization of the red
race. During the war with the Creek Indians, he joined the Cherokee
regiment which co-operated with the American army under the
command of General Andrew Jackson, and at the battle of Tallodega
he received a severe gun-shot wound from the enemy, and for which
disability he had been allowed a pension for life by this Government;
and after the treaties of 1817 and 1819 he removed with his family
and many others of his people, to the new country acquired by the Nation from the United States, west, by virtue of the exchange of land which took place under the treaties mentioned. To the treaty of 1828 his signature will be
found as one of the subscribing negotiators. He has held many conspicuous offices, posts of honor, and trust among

his people; and, after the death of John Jolly, he was the only surviving legitimate chief in power under the "Old
Settlers," or "Western Cherokees," when the Cherokee Nation from east of the Mississippi removed and arrived in
their new country west, in the spring of 1839.
In the measures pursued for the preservation of peace, harmony, and brotherhood, and which led to the adoption of the Act of Union that made the Eastern and Western Cherokees again a united people under the present existing
Government of the Cherokee Nation, Captain Looney, as a true patriot and friend to the prosperity and happiness of his people, acquitted himself wisely, and gained the full confidence of not only his own immediate constituents, the "old settlers," but also of the new emigrants from their ancient country east of the Mississippi. He has left a very worthy and respectable family and numerous friends to mourn his loss. For some days previous to his death he appeared to be conscious that he could not recover from his sickness; and, in a conversation on the subject, he remarked that he had fully made his peace with his Maker; and that he did not in the least fear to die, whenever it should please him to take his spark of life away; that the great and the powerful, the humble and the weak, were alike all doomed, sooner or later, to the same end, and he knew that death awaited all. MOSES LOONEY (1780-1855) is shown in Masonic regalia in this rare photograph taken shortly before his death in Lawrence Co., Alabama. He married Sequoyah’s niece, Mary Guess. He descends from Robert Looney of Ballagilley, Isle of Man, a member of the Spanish-Portuguese Jewish mercantile family Luna. Robert Looney brought his entire family to Philadelphia in 1732 and they became one of 70 families in a major settlement of the Virginia uplands under Alexander Ross and Morgan Bryan in 1735. This is the William Looney family and where my indian heritage comes from.

William Looney is descended from John Looney, Cherokee, minor chief.Father William Looney, mother Elizabeth Woodard, also Cherokee. His family were part of the Old Settlers in Oklahoma. He was born abt. 1863, died 1943 and is buried in the Elm Grove Cemetery. He was first married to Queen Crittenden, who bore him a daughter, Pearl, before she died. William and Pearl are both in the 1900 Oklahoma census. Martha Harmon, his wife, was previously married to Cable Tidwell, and had 2 sons by him, John and Ernest. On the 1900 census, they are listed as living with William Looney, Pearl and William's uncle. Both William and Martha list themselves as widowed. Martha is a descendent of of John Endicott, an early governor of Mass. She was born 1872, died 1957, buried by William.The children were Jim, Tom, Maude, Josie, Gertie, Maggie, Sadie. William was granted a parcel of land in the Eufala/Texanna area when the Cherokee's were enrolled. That land is still in the family.
